Rekey Your New Home in Sunrise, FL
Rekeying a newly bought home in Sunrise, FL costs $230 for 4 standard locks, and $45 for each lock beyond that. After closing, you don't know how many keys are out there — the sellers, their family, a cleaner, a dog walker, the listing agent's lockbox. A rekey makes every one of them useless.
- Licensed & insured
- 6-month workmanship warranty
- About 20 min to you
What the $230 covers
- 4 standard locks, all moved onto a single new key (for example: front knob, front deadbolt, side door, garage-to-house door)
- The trip
- 2 new keys; extra copies $5 each, cut in your driveway More locks? $45 each on the same visit.
The new-home checklist we go through with you
- Every exterior door, including the garage-to-kitchen or garage-to-laundry door — the one most people forget.
- The sliding door. Most Sunrise homes are from 1970–1989; many original slider latches no longer catch. See sliding door locks.
- Garage door keypad — change the code (we show you how; it's in the opener's manual).
- Mailbox — a new mailbox lock is $85. For cluster boxes, the post office or HOA may need to be involved.
- Smart locks left by the seller or builder — every old code and user deleted, or a full reset with the backup cylinder rekeyed for $95.
- Impact doors — rekeying is safe for the door's approval. Replacing the lock needs matching hardware (why).
Where you bought matters a little
- A condo in Sunrise Lakes — the association may want a key afterward; mailbox locks go through the office.
- A house in Welleby — usually four exterior locks plus a slider, often on two different key brands.
- A townhouse in Artesia or a unit at Metropica — gate or front-desk check-in first; see the Sawgrass area page.
Rekey or replace on move-in?
Rekey if the locks work. Replace a lock that's stiff, rusted or that you want to upgrade — from $140 per lock. Mixing is fine: we rekey three and replace one.
Common questions
When should I rekey — closing day or later?
As soon as you have the keys. You can book us for the afternoon of closing day; we usually reach any Sunrise address in about 20 minutes and confirm the time when you call.
We bought near Piper High or one of the Welleby schools — anything specific?
If your kids will walk home from Piper High, Bair Middle or Welleby Elementary, a keypad on the side or garage-entry door means nobody has to carry a key (City of Sunrise schools list). Installation starts at $160 for labor.
Does the seller have to rekey for me?
Usually not — rekeying is normally the buyer's job. Check your purchase contract.
Can one key open every door?
Usually yes. If you have Kwikset and Schlage locks, we may swap one cylinder. You hear the price first.
Will my home warranty cover the rekey?
Some warranty plans that come with a home purchase include a rekey benefit or a reimbursement. Check your plan's terms first; we give you an itemized invoice you can send in.
Locked out? Call — the price comes first.
